brixton pillars
The iconic pillars under Brixton Rail station were changing owners, causing great anxiety and disruption in the community. Business owners were frustrated and some people in the community were fearful of the change.

The Brief
After interviewing Binki Taylor for Impact Brixton’s content marketing, she approached me to take on researching, interviewing and writing the content for a site communicating the changes in Brixton’s traditional railway arch shopping network.
Needing a writer who could understand the complex feelings around the controversial development of the railway arches in Brixton, I was briefed to communicate “change is constant”.
Brixton Library’s Lambeth archives & the British Library’s stores uncovered first-hard narratives around Edwardian retail innovation, moving forwards into the 192os, through to Windrush Generation entrepreneutial vigour.
Historical research and case studies with current business owners allowed a nuanced tone of voice to communicate the unique spirit and community of Brixton, and the project continues to evolve.
Don’t take my word for it…
“Ann did a deep dive into getting a good feel for the characters and their stories with research and interviews.
She picked up on the nuances and context in a complex brief and told the story we wanted to tell in a rich narrative that with an authentic tone of voice.
She is organised, diligent and patient – a pleasure to work with.”
